It is a privilege to be invited to join other public representatives from the European revolutionary left this weekend to address Greek workers and activists at forums in Athens and Salonika.
I will bring the experience of Irish working people into the forums that I will be addressing and which I expect are fundamentally similar experiences to what has been demanded of workers in Greece, Spain, Portugal and Iceland, that is, that they must pay for the capitalist crisis in order to save capitialism itself.
Most importantly for me will be learning, first hand, of the active struggle that Greek workers are engaged in against the austerity measures Prime Minister Papandreou seeks to impose on them, egged on by the major EU powers. The message I anticipate that I will be bringing back to working people in Ireland from their brothers and sisters in Greece is “let the rich pay for their crisis and without struggle the capitalists will keep taking from you, your pay and hard won conditions.”
